Commissioners Decide To Tear Building Down
The Nowata County Commissioners Monday morning were discussing ways to keep county records from being damaged. Most of the records are stored upstairs in the courthouse and some are being stored in the Star Building, located south of the courthouse. After much discussion, the commissioners decided to go out for bids to tear down the Star Building, expand the parking lot, and build a small storage building to store all the county records. Chairman Doug Sonenberg went over some of the details. The REAP Grant that the county received is around $37,000 for the project. Officials have yet spent any money on the grant and will request to extend the grant. In other action, the commissioners approved a juvenile detention center contract from Muskogee for $23.27 per child per day. Sheriff James Hallett recommended to the commissioners to accept the contract.
