Four Washington County students are part of a list of 59 recipients of academic scholarships from the Cherokee Nation for the 2014-2015 school year.  The students include Heather Carter, Emily Brown, and Nicholas Gaskill from Bartlesville High School and Meagan Morrow of Southwestern College.  The students were selected following an evaluation of the applicants’ academic experience, financial need, and community and culture involvement.

Executive Director of the Cherokee Nation Foundation, Janice Randall says tribal officials understand that giving the students a hand up as they tackle college ultimately makes communities served by the program stronger. She says there were some outstanding applicants, and she hopes they take their education and use it to better their community and their Cherokee Nation.  The foundation awarded more than $125,000 this year in scholarships. Recipients include 25 high school students and 34 university students, representing all of the Cherokee Nation’s 14 counties and citizens at large
