Coburn Alleges Social Security Abuses
U.S. Sen. Tom Coburn is among a group of senators releasing the findings of a two-year probe into alleged abuses in how Social Security disability benefits were approved at a federal Office of Disability Adjudication and Review in West Virginia.
The Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee conducted a hearing in Washington into the report entitled: "Social Security Disability Benefits: Did A Group of Judges, Doctors and Lawyers Abuse Programs for the Country's Most Vulnerable?"
Several employees of the office testified during the hearing about inappropriate conduct between a law firm, and doctors and judges who helped approve Social Security benefits.
The ranking member of the committee, Coburn described the abuse of social security benefits as an "enormous and urgent problem."
