Young Bulldoggers' Baseball Team Ready for Opener

The weather may not show it but baseball season is right around the corner for the Dewey Bulldoggers. The Doggers will have a young roster after losing eight seniors off of last year’s squad that was eliminated two games into Regionals.

Dewey will be led by first-year head coach Geoff Beaty, who served as an assistant on last year’s club. Beaty says this year’s team will be led by strong core of underclassmen.

Beaty highlights Corbin Buford and Hayden Wood as two sophomores who will play key roles this season after getting a taste of varsity ball last season. Buford and Wood will pitch for the Doggers as well as playing multiple defensive roles. Michael Caswell is a left-handed pitcher that has thrown well in the preseason. Beaty likes Jack Davis who offers versatility in the infield. Also, Grant Johnson is a big bat that will play in the outfield.

Despite the youth, Beaty says the Doggers will win games because of their scrappiness.

Dewey opens the season on Friday at Cascia Hall. The Doggers will then play Holland Hall on Monday for their home opener. We’ll have more on Dewey baseball as the spring progresses.
