Wrap-up of Caney Valley Tournament

The Caney Valley Tournament came to a close this Saturday night with all final games coming to an end. We’ll highlight the games we had for you on the radio, starting with the Caney Valley Trojans vs. Oklahoma Bible Academy for the consolation championship.
This one started the same way the Trojans opening round game started, they had a lead after the first quarter that would be squandered away, losing the 5th place game 48-30. Trojans jumped out early though, leading 12-7 after the first quarter, including this 3-pointer by Maverick Condry.
Trojans fall in the fifth place game, and are back at home next week against Chelsea.
For the 2:30 game, we had Dewey vs. Caney Valley (KS) in KRIG, and this one saw Dewey finish 2-1 in the tourney, winning 3rd place in a rout over the Bullpups 63-31. This one was all Dewey from the get-go, going up 39-18 at the half.
Last two quarters would show much more of the same, with Dewey outscoring the Bullpups 24-12 in the second half. Bulldoggers are now 6-9 and travel to Oklahoma Union on Tuesday.
Finally, the night cap of the live KRIG games was the girl’s championship featuring home, hosting team Caney Valley Lady Trojans, and taking on the OBA Lady Trojans. This one was close from start to finish, with OBA leading the majority of the way by five points or less.
A strong second half from OBA would propel them to winning the Lady’s championship game 53-44. Caney Valley hung around and were able to take the lead just twice, but never trailed by double digits. A close first half showed OBA up 24-23, with them closing out the second half by outscoring Caney Valley by 8, winning the tournament.
Other notable finishes, Copan boys beat Barnsdall for 7th place, Caney Kansas girls beat Copan for the girls consolation championship, Liberty girls beat the lady Bulldoggers for 3rd place, and finally Liberty boys beat Riverfield, for the men’s title game of the tournament.
