The Oklahoma Wesleyan men’s team was on the losing end of an early morning instant classic as they fell to IU East, 82-77 in double overtime. With the loss the Eagles are eliminated from the NAIA National Tournament and their season is over.

The Eagles were locked in tight one with the team having to play catchup for most of regulation. Josh Wilchcombe converted a tough bucket in the paint to knot the game at 55 and force the extra for the second consecutive game.

OKWU and the Red Wolves went basket-for-basket in the first overtime. With OKWU down by one K.J. Malveau converted his only three-pointer of the game to give OKWU a 64-62 lead. IU East would score to tie it once again with 30 seconds left.

Isaak Rowe would then hit a long two-pointer to put the Eagles up two with four seconds remaining. However, the Red Wolves weren’t done yet as Jaylen McKay would drive coast-to-coast and hit a jumper to beat the buzzer and force a second overtime.

IU East would take the upper hand from there as it outlasted the Eagles to close out the victory. The Red Wolves converted free throws down the stretch in order to advance to their second consecutive Elite 8.

K.J. Malveau led the Eagles in scoring with 24 points but it took him 23 shot attempts to get here. The Eagles offense was a struggle in this one shooting just 37% from the field.

The Eagles season ends at 26-9. They do not graduate a single senior off this year’s roster.
