Oklahoma Wesleyan men’s hoops went to battle Thursday night in the first round of the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference postseason tournament against the Bethel Threshers. This one would be all Eagles as they would lead for nearly 36 of the 40 minutes contest to grab a 74-61 victory.

Eagles went down early to Bethel as the Threshers came out hot to lead 12-7 before Wesleyan would take a huge lead they would never surrender. OKWU would outscore Bethel 35-10 the final 15-minutes of the first half to go up 42-22 after the first 20-minutes of play.

A big reason for that run was Dylan Phillip, who had a team-high nine-points at the half. Phillip was on fire in this game, finishing with 14-points including four-three pointers in the game. This one helped push the early Eagle lead.

Senior Kaleb Stokes had an outstanding game as well as he eclipsed 20-points for the third time this season, including four three-pointers. Here was one of them in the second half to help keep the Thresher’s at bay.

Bethel would come firing back in the second half as a four-minute scoring drought from Oklahoma Wesleyan allowed the Thresher’s to cut the lead to just 10 at 69-59. The Eagles though would settle in to hold off Bethel to grab the 13-point win. Jaden Lietzke also poured in his eight double-double of the season with 18-points and 12-rebounds.

Wesleyan bounces back from the Saturday loss to Evangel to move to 27-2 on the season. Eagles will move on to a Saturday night matchup with the St. Mary’s Spires in the semi-final of the KCAC tournament. Tip-off at 7 pm from the Mueller Sports Center in a game we will have for you on KWON.
