OKWU Men Hoops Advance to Round of 32
Oklahoma Wesleyan began their trek for a NAIA championship Friday night and got one step closer to their goal as they beat the Peru State Bobcats 83-65. This game was close early as both teams swapped haymakers during the first 20-minutes of play. OKWU jumped out to an early 17-3 run before the Bobcats responded to make it a 24-21 game early in the first half.
Dylan Phillip got things started early, as he made three three-pointers in the first half, including this one to help extend the early lead.
OKWU would take a 41-33 lead into the half before separating themselves early in the second half. The Eagles would make their move halfway through the second twenty-minute period as they exploded for a 27-10 run after it was 46-40.
This slam from Kaleb Stokes was the exclamation point.
Wesleyan would cruise in the end, grabbing the 18-point victory. Phillip lead the way with a season-high 22-points on 6 made three-pointers. DJ Talton finished with a near triple-double at 18-points, 11-assits, and nine rebounds. Jaden Lietzke also finished with 17-points and Kaleb Stokes poured in 14 to make it four Eagles scoring in double figures.
Wesleyan will turn around and play again Saturday night against MidAmerica Christian at 6 pm at Friends University in Wichita. Tip-off at 6 pm with pregame starting at 5:40 on KWON AM 1400 FM 93.3 and 95.1
