OKWU Hoops Looks to Return to NAIA Round of Eight

Oklahoma Wesleyan men’s hoops will do battle with the Central Baptist Mustangs Thursday afternoon in the round of 16 of the NAIA tournament to try and punch their ticket to the round of eight on Saturday.

The Eagles have now won five-straight games and will try to make it six and return to the final eight for the first time since 2022.

Just like the last time they made it to the Round of 16, OKWU comes into this game with more than 30 total wins on the season at 31-2. They’ll have a tough contest against a solid 14-seeded, 27-6 Mustang team that scores over 80 ppg.

Head Coach Donnie Bostwick talks about the big Thursday matchup.

The Mustangs earned wins over Mid-America Nazarene, 100-90 and Bethel Indiana, 79-76.

Oklahoma Wesleyan has shot the ball particularly well so far in the NAIA Tournament. Eagles have made 15 threes combined for 37-percent shooting beyond the arc in the tournament. They have also made nearly 80-percent of their free throws. Wesleyan ranks near the bottom of the country in both those categories.

Bostwick says his team’s shooting has not concerned him much this year.

The Eagles will try to make their return to the NAIA Round of Eight on Thursday at 3 pm from historic Municipal Auditorium in downtown Kansas City.

We will have that game for you on Sports Talk 99.1 FM KPGM, with pregame beginning at 2:40.
