Oklahoma Wesleyan couldn’t quite win its rubber match against Southwestern College on Monday night in Park City, Kansas, as the Eagles fell in the finals of the Kansas Colligate Athletic Conference Tournament in a close one.

The Moundbuilders made more plays down the stretch in a 78-75 victory.

For the second straight season, OKWU and Southwestern split the regular season and conference championships.

Southwestern made big plays in the final three minutes, to turn a one-point deficit into an eventual two-possession lead and three-point win. As usual, the Eagles did not make it easy on the Builders. Trailing in the final few possessions, Wesleyan kept the pressure on Southwestern with a Brooks Haddock three-pointer that cut the Moundbuilder lead to one in the final seconds.

Southwestern would hit its ensuing two free-throws after OKWU nearly forced a turnover. Wesleyan then had the ball with a chance to tie the contest in the final 13-seconds, but could not get a three-pointer to fall.

Four Eagles finished in double-figures, led by KJ Malveau who had 22. Josh Wilchombe had 18 points and nine rebounds.

OKWU (30-3) now awaits its fate in the NAIA National Tournament, which will begin next week.

The Eagles are in the tournament, it is just a matter of seeding, as Donnie Bostwick's club will look to bring a second national championship to Bartlesville.

The brackets will be released on Wednesday at 5:00 PM. We will have much more on Oklahoma Wesleyan men’s basketball in the NAIA Tournament when the pairings are announced.
