The Oklahoma Union boys’ basketball team is once again getting a lot of attention for being one of the top teams in the area and state as well. The Cougars are currently ranked as the No. 5 team in Class 2A with a 7-0 record.

OKU has been lucky to get its games in thus far. Only two other teams in 2A have gotten to play more games than the Cougars thus far. Oklahoma Union head coach Lee Ott says the teams has improved its efficiency so far.

Ott says a lot of the season is focused on getting ready for a playoff run. The Cougars have made the area tournament in each of the last two seasons. Last year, OKU won 15 games in a row to start the season before being upended by 5A Fort Gibson in late January. Ott says going undefeated this season isn’t a huge focus.

The Cougars will return from break on January 7 with a trip to the Oologah tournament. OKU will open with Class-A power Rejoice Christian.
