Nowata basketball finds itself in a great place heading into winter break. The Ironmen faced a tough task heading into to the season as they needed to replace their top eight scorers from last year’s team who nearly made the 2A state tournament. So far, Nowata is off to a 7-2 start.

The Ironmen have been aided with seven home games to start the season. Nowata head coach Gary Hollingshead said he wasn’t sure what to expect coming into the season.

Nowata will face some tough competition after the New Year with two matchups remaining with each of Caney Valley, Kansas, Caney Valley, Oklahoma and, Oklahoma Union as well. Hollingshead says the team knows nothing is guaranteed going forward.

Hollingshead says the biggest priority going forward is to get healthy after a few minor injuries developed in the last week or so. Nowata will play its first game of 2019 on January 4 at Caney, Kansas.
