Nowata Basketball Sweeps Life Way
Nowata began play in its own tournament with two convincing wins on Monday night.
First off, the Lady Ironmen played suffocating defense en route to a 45-15 victory over Life Way Christian from Centerton, Arkansas. Kennedy Downing was the top scorer with nine points.
The boys faired even better knocking off Life Way, 78-40. Zen Callahan continued his stellar start to the year with a 25-point performance, 17 of which came in the first half.
The Ironmen were able to keep the pressure on the Warriors with a tight zone defense throughout the contest. Coach Gary Hollingshead was able to tap into his depth with a big lead in the fourth quarter. That will be a big benefit as the Ironmen will play their fourth game in five days on Tuesday.
Day two of the tournament will feature a Nowata County rivalry as both sides host Oklahoma Union in a doubleheader starting at 6:30 on Tuesday night.
We will have the Cougar and Ironmen boys on the radio tonight – tip off at 8:00 PM on KRIG 104.9 FM.
