Bartlesville High School has a new head football coach.

Bartlesville Public Schools has hired Harry Wright, a former head coach at the 4A level in Arkansas, as the new leader of the Bruin football program.

Wright was previously a defensive coordinator at Bentonville West, Arkansas before getting the head coaching job at Lonoke, Arkansas in 2019.

He has a career coaching record of 96-39 and 14 seasons of coaching experience.

He is originally from Eufaula, Oklahoma and played college football at Bacone in Muskogee. His wife also has ties to Washington County.

BHS Athletic and Activities Director Thad Dilbeck talks about the hire.

Wright had success at Lonoke each of the past three seasons as head coach, where he led the team to earn 21 wins, the 2019 4A-2 Conference Championship, and 2020 4A-2 Conference Runner-Up.

Wright will be able to start this coming Monday, which was a point in his favor. He had spent time as an assistant at several different schools in Oklahoma, most recently McAlester, before heading to Arkansas.

A hiring committee of ten, which included staff, coaches, and parents, selected Wright from a pool of over 50 applicants.

Wright was a two-time NAIA All-American and offensive lineman at Bacone. He and his wife, Lauren, have a nine-year-old son named Evan.

He replaces Jason Sport who resigned his post as Bruin head football coach.
