Lady Bruins Season Ends in Area

It was a gritty effort for the BHS ladies, but not enough shots fell in Area in order to advance for a chance at state.

The Bartlesville High girls’ basketball team had its season come to an end on Thursday evening in the 6A Area Consolation Bracket.

Shawnee topped BHS 59-53 to advance to Saturday's Area round and bounce the Lady Bruins.

Bartlesville fell behind as many as 16 in the third quarter, and a late comeback fell short. The Lady Bruins became only the third team to score 50-points or more against Shawnee this season, but an early third quarter run ended up putting the game away for the Lady Wolves.

Shawnee scored the first 11 points of the third, to expand a four-point halftime lead to 15. The closest Bartlesville would get after that was within four in the final minute, when Jena’ Williams willed her team back in the ballgame. This deep three gave BHS some hope.

Williams was spectacular in her final game as a Lady Bruin. She finished with 34 points, and single handedly kept Bartlesville within striking distance during the initial Shawnee run. Williams will go down as one of the best Bartlesville basketball players in program history, as she is headed to the University of Nevada to continue her career.

Bartlesville ends the season at 18-8. The game also ends the careers of Trinity Parker, Shei Emery and Trinity Crowder.

Congrats on a great run to BHS over the past three seasons.
