Bartlesville High School has chosen a new girls’ basketball coach, and he is from Northeast Oklahoma area.

Former Pawhuska boys’ basketball coach Talby Justus will take over the Lady Bruin program.

Justus had spent one season at Pawhuska as the guy’s coach in 2020-21 and he served as the Huskie’s Athletic Director. This past year the Huskies went 14-5 before losing to Dale in the Area Consolation Bracket.

BHS Athletic Director Thad Dilbeck says he is excited to have Justus on board.

Before coming to Osage County Justus had spent the previous seven years as the as the Associate Head Coach of the Texas Arlington women's basketball team.

He takes over for Donnie Martin, who stepped aside in March to take his old job back in Pryor. Martin had been with the Lady Bruins for three seasons.

Dilbeck says the facilities and administration at Bartlesville sells itself.

Justus went to Pawnee High School and played basketball for his father, Harley, who has coached for more than 35 years in the Oklahoma area. Upon graduation, he went to play college basketball at Northern Oklahoma College before transferring to Tabor College, where he was named a KCAC all-conference player and made a Final Four appearance in the NAIA Tournament in 1997.

The next Pawhuska boy’s coach will be their third in the past three years.
