Indians Lose Winget Opener

The Doenges Ford Indians played a solid game in their opener in the 62nd Glen Winget Tournament on Thursday night, but unfortunately couldn’t pull out the win.

Sioux Falls West topped the Tribe, 4-2.

Bartlesville got good pitching outings from Ryan Jones, Hayden Fiddler and Daniel Barham, but the lineup couldn’t ever get over the hump against a set of good Sioux Falls pitchers.

The Tribe had two base runners thrown out at home plate and couldn’t make the most of their limited opportunities.

Both teams only had five hits.

Jones went a strong four innings in a start, he gave up only one earned run. Meanwhile Fiddler struggled out of the gate, but got a big double-play to limit damage in a two-run fifth inning for Sioux Falls West.

After the double-play the Indians would recapture a little momentum. Luke Fox had a big single through the right side and it looked like Bartlesville might make a comeback.

However, Fox would then be one of the two runners thrown out at the plate after Jakob Hall singled in the next at-bat. Hall was the final Indian’s baserunner, as Sioux Falls West retired the final seven Bartlesville batters in order to win the game.

Game two for the Tribe scheduled for Friday night at 8:00 against the Oklahoma Mudcats, a game we will carry for you on KWON – AM 1400 and FM 93.3. A livestream also available on KWONTV.com.

The Indians will likely have to win on Friday and Saturday to have a chance at making bracket play on Sunday
