Doenges Ford Indians Swept in Home Opener

The Doenges Ford Indian’s are still looking for their first win of the season, as Bartlesville’s summer baseball team was swept in a double-header on Tuesday night in its home opener.

Shawnee came away from Bill Doenges Memorial Stadium with two run-rule victories, winning 18-7 in four innings in game one, and then 14-4 in six innings in game two.

Again, pitching seems to be the main concern for Bartlesville moving forward. The Indian’s have given up 70 runs over their past five games, which is a 14 runs-per-game clip.

In game one on Tuesday, Shawnee scored 14 of its 18 runs in the top of the second inning, where the Savages sent 18 men to the plate against Bartlesville pitching. That effectively ended the game.

Game two was more competitive from the outset. Bartlesville even carried a lead into the fourth frame after this Hunter Harlan RBI.

Shawnee would slowly pull away, however, and outscored Bartlesville 11-0 after that final Indian run scored.

The good news for the Indian’s on Tuesday came off the field, with the roster additions of a couple varsity players from the area.

Alan Covarrubias joined the club. He pitched a scoreless inning in game two. Covarrubias becomes the second Bartlesville Bruin on the roster, and the only players with 6A varsity playing experience. Also Drake Acklin of Collinsville was a new addition.

The Indian’s are 0-7 and are off until Thursday, when they begin play in their annual tournament in Branson, Missouri. Games at 2:00 and 4:30 PM against MAC County and CMC Gray.
