Caney Valley Rolling Out New Look Offense

Caney Valley is another school that will be taking the field Monday. The Trojans have big aspirations after making the playoffs a year ago. They will begin their pursuit of second consecutive postseason bid under head coach Stephen Mitchell.

Mitchell has already made a drastic change to his team in the hopes of improving the offense. Last year’s starting quarterback Christian Colbert—who threw for over 3,000 yards and ran for over 1,000 yards—is being moved to tailback. Mitchell said the position swap is intended to give more chances to make plays.

The Trojans will put the offense in the hands of freshman Jackie Black who takes over the reins from Colbert at the quarterback position. Black is just 14-years-old and stands at six-foot-four. He showed off impressive arm talent at the Dewey passing league. However, coach Mitchell is more impressed with his mental capability than any physical traits.

The new look Trojans offense will tested right out of the gate in a zero week matchup with Barnsdall on August 24.
