Bruins Follow COVID-19 Protocol

Bartlesville High Athletics and Activities Director Thad Dilbeck says Bartlesville Public Schools followed its established protocol, and then some, when dealing with its first positive COVID-19 case over the weekend.

As KWON had previously reported, a Bruin football player notified his coaches of the positive test result over the weekend.

This required the school to ask that his fellow teammates within his group quarantine for 14 days after exposure. The quarantine will end on Thursday. The coaches also sent out messages to all football parents, and district administration aided with the situation.

Dilbeck says the decision to shut down football workouts completely until Aug. 10 came from head football coach Jason Sport.

Aug. 10 is the first official day that high school football can begin in Oklahoma. Dilbeck again stressed that Bartlesville’s number one priority is safety for any student who wants to participate in activities this fall.

He says that consulting with other schools across the state will be part of the decision-making process.

We will have more from Dilbeck during his weekly Bruin Buzz program on Friday morning at 9:45, on KWON – AM 1400 and FM 93.3.

Bruin Buzz airs every Friday morning at 9:45.
