BHS Splits with Sand Springs in Basketball Opener

It was a split evening at Bruin Fieldhouse on Tuesday, as both the girl’s and boy’s Bartlesville High School basketball teams began their seasons.

The Lady Bruins fell to Sand Springs 51-34, while the Bruin boys came from behind to beat the Sandites, 53-39.

On the girl’s side, BHS gave up 25 fourth quarter points in the 17-point loss. The Lady Bruins cut the Sand Springs lead to three, 26-23 with a Destiny Harris basket early in the fourth quarter. It would be all Lady Sandites the rest of the way.

Bartlesville (0-1) had given up just 26 points in the previous three quarters. Destiny Harris and Trinity Parker led the Lady Bruins with seven points each.

On the boy’s side, the Bruins (1-0) came back from seven points down at halftime to beat Sand Springs by 14. BHS allowed just 11 points in the second half thanks to a full-court press and zone defense employed by head coach Clent Stewart at the start of the second half.

Andrew Gronigan was the story of the game offensively. Gronigan finished unofficially with 21 points, while making five three-pointers. Including this one in the second half that helped the Bruins lead balloon to nine.

Both Barron Tanner, 10, and AJ Archambo, 12, finished in double figures, as well.

Both Bartlesville  teams will next host Owasso on Friday night at Bruin Fieldhouse. The game was moved from Owasso on Dec. 13 to Bartlesville on Dec. 2 because of finals week.

The Bruins will return to Owasso on Feb. 7.

You can listen to both of Friday's games, with the girls at 6:30 and boys at 8:00 on KWON - AM 1400 and FM 93.3.

HERE is an updated printable Bruin and Lady Bruin schedule.
