Another Barltesville Split at Owasso

It was another split evening in Owasso as the Bartlesville girl’s basketball team won its fourth straight and the Bruin boys lost their third in a row.

In two ballgames that mirrored each other, the Lady Bruins beat the no. 6 Owasso Lady Rams 56-51, while the Bartlesville boys fell to Owasso, 59-51.

On the girl’s side, BHS was pounding Owasso, leading by double-digits throughout after an 11-0 start to the game. Bartlesville led Owasso by 18 points early in the fourth quarter, before a 16-1 Lady Ram run cut the Bartlesville lead to three. The Lady Bruins (12-7) got huge three throws from Erin Shoemaker and Jena’ Williams to help keep the lead and win the game.

Shoemaker once again led Bartlesville in scoring with stealthy three-point shooting. Shoemaker made six threes, and finished with 22 points. Williams added in 13.

BHS has won eight of its last 10 heading into a clash with Sand Springs on Friday.

On the boy’s side it was a 26-point third quarter for Owasso that provided the Rams with their winning margin. BHS led the game 27-26 at halftime, but quickly fell behind double-digits after an offensive blitz from Owasso.

BHS would battle back, a three-pointer from Caleb Colbert, and subsequent steal and free-throw from Shane Simpson cut the Owasso led down to three, 52-49, late in the fourth quarter – But Bartlesville would get no closer.

A scoring drought for both teams from 4:00 left in the game until under a minute would  end up costing Bartlesville. The Bruins (9-10) had several trips with the ball trailing 54-49 in that span, but could never get a bucket to cut the lead to a single possession.

Barren Tanner led the Bruins with 18 points, Caleb Colbert added nine on three three-pointers.

Both Bartlesville teams are next at Sand Springs – girls tip at 6:30 with the boys to follow around 8:00 on KWON – AM 1400 and FM 93.3.
