With 2018 coming to a close in just a matter of days we will continue our look back at some of the top stories in local sports. Donnie Bostwick’s return to Oklahoma Wesleyan University as its men’s basketball coach was a major story in 2017. Under his guidance the Eagles returned to NAIA National Tournament after an incredible run to win the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament in late February.

The Eagles dispatched of Tabor and Friends in games played at the Mueller Sports Center in Bartlesville. Then the venue moved to Wichita’s Hartman Arena for the conference finals against Southwestern College on February 26.

OKWU started off slow on offense as they led just 32-29 at halftime. However, the Eagles would kick it into overdrive in the second half before ultimately winning 84-64.

Here’s what it sounded like when the Eagles clinched the trophy and a spot in the NAIA National Tournament.

Joshua Wilchcombe stole the show with 15 points, 19 rebounds and six blocked shots. K.J. Malveau chimed in with 22 points as well. Eagles head coach Donnie Bostwick was elated after this major victory.

The Eagles would then go on to knock off Bethel, Indiana in the first round of the national tournament in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. However, OKWU’s magical run would come to an end in the round of sixteen with double-overtime loss to IU-East.

The Eagles find themselves poised to make another postseason run at 15-0 so far this year. OKWU finishes the calendar of 2018 with a 30-4 record.
