The Bartlesville Police Department observed Peace Officers Memorial Day during a noon-hour ceremony Monday.   President of the Fraternal order of Police, Anthony Lynn and  FOP Vice-President, Nathan Mellon read the names of the local officers listed on the local memorial as having given their lives in the line of duty. 

Chief Tom Holland added two officers who were not present at this year's observance -- retired detective and former city councilman, Eddie Mason and Highway Patrolman and Bartlesville native, Dwayne Grundy.

Keynote Speaker, Congressman Jim Bridenstine spoke of his own connection to law enforcement while flying drug interdiction missions for the U. S. Navy.  He says cuts in federal funding and resulting cuts in those type of missions will make the mission for local law enforcement harder.

The observance is part of Police Week.  President John Kennedy instituted a Peace Officers Memorial Day, enacting the law in 1961 naming May 15th as a day to honor law enforcement.
