Attorney General Scott Pruitt announced a new initiative on Tuesday designed to defend religious freedom and provide support to Oklahoma schools facing intimidation. The assistance includes creating a statewide training program to equip superintendents, teachers, parents, school board members, and others to know their rights.

Pruitt says the Freedom From Religion Foundation has filed law suits around the country to advance its agenda.  Pruitt says the group misrepresents the law with its claim that it is illegal to distribute religious literature in public schools or to teach classes such as “The Bible as Literature”.  Pruitt says he has sent a letter to superintendents outlining what is allowed under the First Amendment.

In his letter to superintendents, Pruitt said schools can lawfully allow the dissemination of religious literature on campus.  Read a copy of Pruitt's letter.
