Broken Arrow Sweeps Bartlesville

Both the Bruins and Lady Bruins fell at Broken Arrow on Friday night.

The teams had split in their first matchups on Dec. 9, with the girls losing and boys winning, but a hotly contested boys game ended up bouncing the Tigers way in the end.

First for the girls, the Lady Bruins struggled from the outset and fell 56-44. Bartlesville spotted BA a 20-8 lead at the end of the first quarter. It seemed like Broken Arrow struggled to put Bartlesville away, though. BHS kept the game within single-digits for the majority of the second quarter.

BHS went 6-6 from the free-throw line in the second quarter, keeping the Lady Tigers within arms reach. Bartlesville (10-9) trailed by 10 at half, 30-20, and had outscored BA in the second quarter.

However, Darian Jackson and the Broken Arrow offense would be too much in the end. Jackson scored eight of her 12 points in the third quarter, and pushed the Broken Arrow lead to double-digits for good.

Hailey Tucker ended the game with 31 points, hitting two threes, and scoring 10 of BHS' 11 points in the third quarter.

On the boy's side, things were much closer, although it didn't start that way. Bartlesville lost to Broken Arrow, splitting the season series with the Tigers, 60-57.

Bartlesville fought its way back, as it has often times this season, and led 57-56 with 30 seconds left in the game. The lead, which came on an AJ Parker and-one off a terrific no-look pass from Barron Tanner, was Bartlesville's first since early in the first quarter. Parker tied the game with the bucket, and gave BHS the lead with the free-throw.

However, Broken Arrow answered right back. Trenton Cantrell, who always seemed to have an answer for BHS, scored a floating pull-up 8-footer, giving BA the lead back at 58-57 with 10 seconds left.

Bartlesville head coach Clent Stewart called timeout with 3.4 seconds left, but a pass from AJ Archambo to Tristan Crowder went off Crowder's hand out of bounds, giving the ball, and the game, to BA.

It looked like the game might not go down to the wire. Broken Arrow had a 29-20 lead at halftime. Bartlesville had spotted the Tigers a double-digit lead in the second quarter. However, Antonio Castillo came out of the halftime break on a mission, hitting two threes, and almost immediately cutting the Broken Arrow lead to one.

BA had its lead bounce between one and seven until the fourth quarter. Two threes from unlikely sources pulled Bartlesville close enough to take the lead late in the game. Tanner and Archambo both put in a trey in the final quarter.

Tanner Thompson also scored six-points on two three-pointers.

Bartlesville next hosts Union on Tuesday, Feb. 10. You can listen to both the boys and girls games on KWON 1400 AM, 93.3 FM or online here at Bartlesvilleradio.com
