Wash. Co. Commissioners to Hold Public Hearing, More
A public hearing regarding the reservation of West 1400 Road between North 3960 and its end into the Caney River will be held by the Washington County Commissioners.
Chairman Mitch Antle outlined how we got to this point in a Commissioners' meeting back in January, referencing a signed petition regarding the closure of the road. Antle said they could close the road, but they can't vacate it.
Commissioner Antle said this will allow them to close the road and put it under a reserve statues. He says it will allow the property owners to gate the area and maintain it. This would eliminate Washington County's requirements to maintain the gate, but it does not vacate the utility easement there.
Washington County Sheriff Scott Owen had said that they have seen numerous issues on the dead end road in the past, including the recovery of stolen vehicles, underage drinking, DUI's, drug paraphernalia, oilfield theft, agriculture theft and more. He says he wouldn't mind seeing the road closure.
The public hearing will take place during the Washington County Commissioners meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 22, at 9:30 a.m. Following the hearing, the Commissioners may vote to approve a couple of items related to the closure of the road.
