Man Dies at Dewey Industrial Park During Grass Fire
A man died at the Dewey Industrial Park in Washington County following a grass fire over the weekend.
According to Washington County Sheriff Scott Owen, the incident took place late Saturday morning at H&S Field Services along County Road 1400 just east of Pump'n Pete's in Dewey. He said the man was a former employee that was permitted to work on his semi-truck and trailer on the property.
Sheriff Owen said the man accidently set off a grass fire while working. Owen said the man tried to put out the fire with a heavy shirt that he had with him. He said the man is believed to have eventually fell to the ground in the process of knocking out the fire.
Bartlesville Ambulance transported the man to Ascension St. John Jane Phillips where he was pronounced deceased. Sheriff Owen said it is undetermined at this time if the man died from natural causes or smoke inhalation. He said the State Medical Examiner will be conducting an additional investigation as well as an autopsy to officially determine the man's cause of death.
Sheriff Owen said there is no foul play to be suspected. He said it is a sad situation; they give their condolences to the family.
Bartlesville EMS, Dewey Fire and the Washington County Sheriff's Office responded to the incident.
