The Nowata County Commissioners discussed several budget related matters at Monday morning’s meeting. An item regarding the sales tax budget for the next fiscal year was approved.

County Clerk Kay Spurgeon says that most departments are asking for the same budgeted amount as last year. She says the only change is a rise in cost for the county’s certified public accountant.

A resolution on county use tax was discussed as well. Previously, sheriff Jason McClain requested that the board allocate the use tax funds to help with payroll increases in the sheriff’s office. Troy Friddle says this will help the county keep quality employees.

Chairman Burke LaRue said he wanted to allocate roughly $20,00 per month to the sheriff’s office, but if they collect extra he would like to see some funds go toward Nowata County Emergency Management. This item was tabled and will be discussed further at next week’s meeting.
