Theater Bartlesville Mourns Loss of Meadows

A local actor, volunteer and friend is being mourned after his sudden passing.

Bernard “Bernie” Leo Meadows passed away on Monday, Feb. 8th, 2021 due to complications of COVID-19. Bernie was born on June 15, 1959 in Bartlesville to Lionel “Hap” Meadows and Bernadine (Welch) Meadows, and he remained a lifelong resident. He attended Bartlesville schools, graduating from College High in 1977.

Bernie loved his community and his community has loved him back. He lived his life by approaching each day with gratitude, humility and love. Bernie was passionate about the theater and very active with Theater Bartlesville, working on 12 productions in just the last 7 years. He was an avid supporter of the local arts community and volunteered with the Bartlesville High School theater department and attended many shows. He was a regular at local runs supporting causes such as Run the Streets, Mary Martha Outreach, Walk a Mile in Her Shoes and the Red Cross. Bernie recently received a 12-gallon pin from the Red Cross, representing nearly 100 blood donations. Bernie enjoyed traveling to visit friends and family. He was active in the local disc golf organization and found courses to play everywhere he traveled, teaching many others to play. He regularly donated to the United Way and served meals at Christmas with Friends In Deed. Bernie participated in many Pride events and more recently, BLM marches. He co-announced at the Pride Bingo event with Oklahomans for Equality Bartlesville and was involved in the ConocoPhillips Pride Diversity Group. Bernie worked for Phillips 66 and ConocoPhillips for many years.

Bernie was preceded in death by his father Lionel and brother Paul “Sandy” Meadows. Bernie was a devoted father to his beloved children, Noah Meadows of Bartlesville and Terra Burton of Houston, Tx. He is also survived by his mother Bernadine (Gail) of Las Vegas, NM; brothers Pete (Penny) of Bartlesville, Martin (Donna) of Sun City, AZ, Philip (Liz) and Michael (Jean) both of Urbana, IL; sisters Cate Tschumy (Bill) of Longmont, CO, Maggie and Mary both of Toledo, OH, and Christine (Cathy) of Aurora, CO as well as numerous nieces and nephews and grandnieces/nephews.

Bernie will be sorely missed by his family and his many, many friends. If you wish to honor his memory, you are asked to please love others and wear a mask. A celebration of Bernie’s life will be announced for a later time when they can prevent exposure to COVID-19.
