Several Nowata County officials spoke out against opening the courthouse at Monday morning’s Nowata County Commissioners meeting. On Monday, May 4 an emergency resolution will be re-evaluated and it’s possible the commissioners could vote to open the courthouse and county offices to the public. Nowata County Lynn Wesson Treasurer shares her concern.

County officials cited an order from the Oklahoma Supreme Court that would leave the upstairs courtroom closed through May 15. However, the possibility of opening other offices in the courthouse could be considered.

Assessor Chandee Hawk said the offices do not have proper cleaning supplies and that would put employees in harms ways should the building open back up. District two commissioner Doug Sonenberg said he is not in favor of opening the courthouse next week.

Nowata County Emergency manager Laurie Summers says she has disinfectant and other personal protective equipment for use at the courthouse whenever it does re-open.
