After Governor Kevin Stitt announced a three-phase plan to re-open Oklahoma, the City of Dewey has decided to follow phase one, which allows certain businesses to open on Friday.

Dewey City Manager Kevin Trease said he has been in conference calls with Dewey City Council members, and they have decided that it would be best to follow the state's recommendation and allow personal care businesses like hair salons, nail salons and pet groomers to open on a by-appointment only capacity. He said personal care businesses in Dewey have been putting up signs that say they can only service the public if they make an appointment first and if the person comes to the appointment by themselves.

Everyone is anxious to get businesses back open. However, Trease agrees with Gov. Stitt that it needs to happen in a gradual motion.

According to Gov. Stitt's plan, more businesses like restaurants, gyms and churches will see some restrictions lifted for them as well on May 1st. Trease said this plan revolves around public safety and doing the right things to keep you and your family safe.

The hope is that large gatherings can be held once again. Trease said that might take some time though. He said it is good to at least have a start on Friday.

While businesses gradually open in Dewey, Trease asks that everyone continue to practice social distancing protocols. He said he wants to get back to normal, but we have to do so in a manner that further prevents the spread of COVID-19.
