A former Doenges Ford Indians player had his career potentially ended after the NCAA shut down all spring athletics due to COVID-19. Corey Murphy, a senior at Rogers State University was gearing up for the stretch run of his college career when the news came down. Murphy said he and his fellow Hillcats were disappointed.

Murphy, a Chelsea native, was one of the top pitchers on the 2017 Indians. After a stint at Butler County CC Murphy was finding success at the Division II level as a part of the RSU weekend rotation. Murphy was 1-3 with a 5.84 ERA when the NCAA canceled the season on March 17. The lefty’s one win was a complete game shutout. He talks about the game he’s loved since he was a kid.

Murphy will be allowed to retain his eligibility next season if he chooses. He says he will pursue his Master’s in Business Administration if he returns to school.
