Several different representatives spoke at Tuesday morning’s meeting of the Nowata County Commissioners. Dean Bridges from the Sheriff’s Special Committee spoke on sending a request for qualifications to get more info on renovating the current jail or possibly building a new one. Bridges requested a $100 purchase order to cover application fees.

Bridges suggests that when the letters come back that the commissioners open them. All parties agreed that an open meeting would be the best place for the letters to be reviewed.

Another item that was discussed was the approval of a $50,000 CED grant application for work on a bridge in District 1. Burke LaRue said the work is for a bridge on Road 26 near the Washington County line in southern Nowata County. The commissioners discussed several ideas as to how to fix the bridge. Ultimately the application was approved.

Jerome Gnatek gave a presentation on behalf of the E911 committee. Gnatek said he is speaking will several different entities trying to establish a 911 partnership with Coffeyville, Kansas as was previously agreed upon.

The meeting was held Tuesday due to the President’s Day Holiday.
