Bartlesville police took two 16 year-old men into custody thanks to a homeowner who had the technology that alerted them to what was going on around their home.

According to police Captain Jay Hastings, a resident of the 1500 block of Southeast Osage was awakened by their door bell video camera at about 2:25 Friday morning.  Hastings says the resident saw the pair getting into his car and he could also hear them as they called each other by name.

The resident recognized one of the young men as a teenager who lived in the neighborhood and when he went outside he saw that the two were now getting into a neighbor's car. The man told the teens to leave and at that point one of the teenagers pointed a semi-automatic handgun at the man.

The resident called the Police and a short time later Officers began checking the area. An Officer saw the two teenagers crossing the street and after a short foot pursuit two 16-year-old men were taken into custody. Police located two handguns -- one of which was reported stolen. Both Juveniles were arrested and ordered detained by a judge.

Hastings says there have been several car burglaries reported recently in the neighborhood of the 1500 block of Southeast Osage.  Police believe that the two Juveniles arrested were responsible for those thefts as well. The investigation is continuing.

Hastings points to the incident as an example of how new technology can really help with home security. Also, the fact that the homeowner notified Police in a timely manner so that officers were able to apprehend the two people involved in the thefts.  Thankfully no one was injured during this incident.

Hastings has a word of caution. He says that while it is human nature to go outside It is best to contact the Police first and to not go outside and confront the people involved.
