A Bartlesville woman was arrested after running into a grocery store employee with her vehicle after shoplifting. Mary Haggard was charged with assault with a deadly weapon and shoplifting for an incident that occurred late on Wednesday night.

According to an affidavit, employees at Homeland in Bartlesville noticed Haggard taking items from the shelves and putting them in her backpack. Two employees attempted to confront Haggard as she was leaving the store. Haggard was already in the vehicle when the employees approached.

Haggard accidentally put the car in drive and ran over the curb. She then opened the door and gave back a pork loin and rice. The employees believed that Haggard had more in her backpack. Haggard yelled expletives at the employees. She then put her car in reverse and began backing up with the door still open. She ran into one of the employees until the door started to bend.

Haggard drove away and officers later found her at her residence to arrest her. Haggard said the employee would not have been hit if she was not trying to stop her. Bond was set at $2,500.
