The Nowata County Commissioners accepted several items during Monday morning’s meeting. Most notably, the commissioners accepted a $2,500 donation from the Richardson Foundation for the needs of the sheriff’s office. A $60 donation from an unnamed source was also accepted for the county clerk’s office.

Bids for road oil were opened and accepted during the new business portion of the meeting. In total five bids were accepted. Awarding of the bids will take place at next Monday’s meeting.

Chairman Doug Sonenberg summarized a visit of the Nowata County Jail that the county staff made during last week’s meeting. Sonenberg stated that several changes need to made, but most of them are within reason given the age of the actual building itself.

Sheriff Terry Sue Barnett informed the board that the jail is still experiencing some electrical issues. Barnett also presented a report that showed the salary differences between Nowata County deputies, jailers and dispatchers compared to other officers in the state.
