Nowata Comes Up Short at Kansas
It was the closest the Ironmen football program has been to a win in nearly a year.
Despite a sterling effort on the road against an above .500 team, Nowata fans will have to wait a little bit long for the Ironmen's losing streak to end.
Kansas pulled away on Friday evening in Nowata's first district contest, winning 20-6, and sending Nowata to 0-4 to begin the 2018 season.
For the first time in nearly a year, the Ironmen had a lead. Gage Littlefield had this crazy grab to put Nowata up 6-0 in the first half.
Kansas would bounce back with a 70-yard touchdown run to tie the game at 6 going into halftime.
Turnovers were a major issue for Nowata in the second half. The Ironmen turned the ball over three times, once inside their own 10 yard line that led to the Comet go-ahead score.
The Ironmen would drive inside the Kansas 10 with a chance to tie the game in the fourth quarter, but couldn't punch it in the endzone.
Nowata will host Chelsea next week for district game No. 2.
