OKWU Sweeps Southwestern College

It was a clean sweep Saturday afternoon at Winfield, Kansas as Oklahoma Wesleyan University Eagles and Lady Eagles picked up two road wins against Southwestern College.  Lady Eagles won 80-71 while the Eagles won 87-84.

The womens game was tight throughout as the Lady Eagles snapped a two-game losing streak.  It was a team effort for OKWU as they shot 34 percent and went 22 for 22 from the free throw line. OKWU out rebounded Southwestern 47-41.  Shelbie Kirbie led the Lady Eagles with 25 points.   OKWU dominated in the paint scoring 45 points and outscored Southwestern's bench 34-23. Lady Eagles improve to 6-5 overall and 2-3 in KCAC play.

In the mens game, Southwestern got off to a fast start and it looked like it was going be a long day for the Eagles.  OKWU trailed 36-32 at halftime and outscored Southwestern 55-38 in the second half to get a key road win.  Eagles led by 14 with 2:33 left in the game before Southwestern came back to make the game interesting.  The Moundbuilders forced the Eagles 26 turnovers, most came late in the game.  Breiman Alexander led OKWU with 24 points and eight rebounds.  Elbert Lawrence finished with 18 points and Ryan Schuessler added 14 points.  The Eagles shot 48 percent and shot 45 percent from the 3-point line.  OKWU out rebounded Southwestern 45-35. Eagles improve to 5-6 overall and 3-2 in KCAC play.

Both the Eagles and the Lady Eagles next games will be this Thursday as they will host Bethany College.  Ladies play at 6 and the Men will play at 8 o'clock.
