The pond at Independence Community College has been stocked by the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks, and Tourism. Approximately 150 channel catfish were released into the pond on Tuesday as part of the Kansas F.I.S.H. program (Fishing Impoundments and Stream Habitats).

Ben Neely, District Fish Biologist says “We put some good sized fish in this pond. This sets this habitat up for some really good fishing.”

The catfish ranged in size from 8-15 inches, and the state regulations apply to all species caught from any pond in the F.I.S.H. program.

Posted signs around the water state the channel catfish daily creel limit is two per person.

The pond sits at the north end of ICC’s main campus at 1057 West College Avenue, between the residence halls and the gymnasium.

Anglers wishing to fish the pond are asked to park in the parking lots west of the pond.
