City Council Discuss Proposed Budget
The Bartlesville City Council met in a workshop session Monday evening going over the City's budget for fiscal year 2016-2017. Sales tax is the majority of the funds that the city receives and for the past seven and a half years, the City's sales tax growth has decreased and has forced city officials to take some tough decisions. Last year, voters approved a four-tenths percent sales take increase which took effect January 1st. The city received their first check. The proposed budget include adding 26 positions. Administrative Director/CFO Mike Bailey explained.
The increase sales tax also include restoring program funds to the demolition, street and maintenance, and the capital plan. Part of the proposed budget include a 1.1 percent COLA increase for all employees with an estimated cost of $195,000 and a five percent merit increase for all eligible employees. These raises cost $400,000. City Manager Ed Gordon was asked if the proposed budget was considered a conservative budget.
There was no action on the budget. The item is scheduled to be on the City Council agenda on June 6th. At that time, a public hearing will be conducted and its possible that the City Council could adopt the budget.
