South Coffeyville Lions Return to Playoffs After Eight-Year Hiatus

The South Coffeyville Lions are headed to the football playoffs for the first time in eight years, marking a milestone under head coach Giesen’s leadership. The team has shown resilience despite a recent setback, preparing to face top competition in the final regular-season games.
Last week, South Coffeyville fell to Oaks Mission 52-12, a loss coach Giesen attributed largely to special teams errors. “We gave up two kickoff returns for touchdowns and a punt return for a touchdown,” Giesen said. “Defensively, we played well aside from one long run, but those special teams plays really shifted momentum in their favor.”
Looking ahead, the Lions will host Medford, the number one team in their district, Friday night at 7 p.m. Giesen emphasized the importance of focusing on improvement and momentum heading into the playoffs. “Medford has been a strong team year after year. Our emphasis is to continue to get better, cut out the mistakes, and hopefully put our best football on the field Friday,” he said. The Lions will then travel over three hours to Sasakwa for their first playoff game in eight years, aiming to build on their renewed success and advance further than ever before.
