Many of the high school football teams in our area have scrimmages scheduled for Friday night with zero week next week.

Out in Pawhuska, two of our area schools will be playing in the Pioneer Woman Classic on Friday night. Pawhuska will be joined by Dewey, Sperry and Rejoice Christian.

Going into his first season as head coach of the Dewey Bulldoggers, Scott Sapulpa said Friday's scrimmage will be a good measurement for progression. Dewey opens their season next Friday at home against Locust Grove. Coverage of the game can be heard on 104.9 FM - KRIG, with video coverage on KRIGTV.com.

Along with Dewey and Pawhuska playing preseason scrimmages on Friday night, Nowata, Oklahoma Union and Caney Valley will do the same.

Nowata heads out to Ketchum for their lone preseason scrimmage. They'll be joined by Hulbert and the host, Ketchum. The Ironmen open their season on the road against Pawhuska. Coverage of that game can be heard on Sports Talk 99.1 FM - KPGM.

Oklahoma Union heads out to Afton for their preseason scrimmage. Joining the Cougars and Afton will be Fairfield and Okemah. OKU has a first year head coach this season with Bruce Munden running the show. The Cougars open their season next Friday against Colcord.

Caney Valley will scrimmage on Friday with Newkirk and Summit Christian. The Trojans, like Dewey and OKU, are bringing in a first year head coach this season in Derrick Hammer. Caney Valley opens their season next Friday as well against Barnsdall.

We have stories on our website featuring Nowata, OKU and Caney Valley as they head into preseason action on Friday night.
