A Bartlesville 4th of July tradition is off and running, as the Doenges Toyota Indians are 1-0 in their annual event.

The 66th Glen Winget Tournament kicked off on Thursday morning. Five games went off without a hitch during day one, including an Indian victory over Branson, Missouri in the Tribe’s first game of the event.

Bartlesville topped Branson 5-3 in a good one.

Branson ran into two outs on the basepaths in the top of the seventh inning, which allowed the Indians to hold on to a two-run advantage.

For the third straight game this week, Bartlesville had the bats going. Tied at 1-1, the Indians struck for two in the fifth, this one of the bat Brett Eaves.

It was the late innings where thing’s got interesting.

Up only a couple in the sixth, Copan Hornet Zane Stricklin loaded the bases with walks, only to win a long battle with the Pirate nine-hole. On the 10th pitch of the at-bat Stricklin was able to strand those three Branson runners.

A good thing that Bartlesville tacked on a couple insurance runs in the sixth inning, as well. Kael Siemers and Jaxon Zaun both came through with two-outs in a couple hits that would ultimately win the Indians the game.

Bartlesville had double-digit hits for the second time in three games.

Lathe Griggs got the win with an outstanding start. The Dewey Bulldogger went five scoreless and hitless innings to give the Indians a chance. Siemers got the final three outs to close things out.

Bartlesville goes to 1-0 in the Glen Winget, and the Indians will have game two of the event on Friday against Hillcrest.

Another scheduled 8:00 first pitch from Bill Doenges Memorial Stadium on KWON with video coverage on KWONTV.com.
