The Bartlesville Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) will host a Flag Day ceremony on Friday, June 13 at 9 a.m. at the northwest corner of the Bartlesville Public Library, beneath the site’s flagpole.

Appearing on KWON’s Community Connection, DAR members Deborah Cook and Donna Copeland shared details about the upcoming event, which is being held the day before the official Flag Day on June 14.

The ceremony will include a presentation of colors by Scout Troop Five, members of the Sons of the American Revolution in full colonial attire, and remarks from Bartlesville Police Chief Kevin Iklelberry on the flag’s significance to law enforcement. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will move inside the library foyer.

"Flag Day is a time to reflect on the values the American flag represents — valor, purity, and justice," Copeland said. She also shared historical context, including how the flag was once essential to distinguish American ships from pirates during the Revolutionary War, and how it evolved from 13 stars to the current 50.

Cook highlighted DAR’s mission of patriotism, education, and community service. “We honor veterans at every meeting, support local events, and help preserve our history,” she said.

The public is invited to attend the event, which will last about 30 minutes. “Come early or come late, just come,” Copeland encouraged. “We’re there to honor our flag and what it stands for.”
