Unsheltered Ordinance Passed in Bartlesville

Ty Loftis
Many gathered at Bartlesville's city council chambers on Monday evening and heard an update on the unsheltered homeless task force from member Rachel Showler. Showler talked about the golden circle they have used to gain insights on who they are trying to help. The golden circle is who are they trying to help, why are they homeless. how can they be helped and what resources are available for them.
Showler and the task force is looking to help the unsheltered as much as possible. Some of the ways they are doing that now is finding a way to assist in transportation, get them their proper identification and attempting to educate the public in general.
On Monday, the council approved an ordinance clearing up any language that may have been misunderstood regarding what can be done in public spaces. Council member Aaron Kirkpatrick is a member of the task force and he goes into more detail with what that means.
Kirkpatrick said he also wants to be as fair as possible to those who may break the rules. Kirkpatrick talks about how he best knows how to go about doing that given the circumstances.
The council agreed to extend the homelessness task force meeting schedule through January. The 16 member panel meets monthly.
