Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge (TCWR) has been called upon to assist in a critical witness protection case involving the illegal possession of restricted species.
A facility was found to have acquired 16 restricted species without holding the required California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) Restricted Species Permit. As a result, these animals were being kept in violation of state regulations.
At the request of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the CDFW, TCWR has partnered in safely confiscating and transporting eight of these animals to our accredited sanctuary in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Upon arrival, each animal will undergo thorough medical evaluations and be placed on an individualized care and medical management plan. TCWR will continue to provide specialized animal care while the legal proceedings unfold.
TCWR is grateful for the opportunity to work alongside federal and state agencies in these urgent and sensitive rescues. TCWR remains committed to our mission of providing lifelong sanctuary to survivors of the exotic animal trade.
