In the wake of changes within leadership at different programs at Nowata High School, Nowata has named a new softball coach.

Current boys basketball and tennis coach Derick Ott is the new head coach of Nowata softball. Ott takes the position after former head coach Thad Hewitt was released in April.

Ott talked about developing a young softball team.

Along with Ott taking over the softball program, Baylee Wooten has also been named the new girls basketball coach at Nowata. Wooten was previously the head girls basketball coach at Riverfield in Tulsa. We will have more on Wooten in the coming days.

Ott had lots of praise for Wooten.

In additional athletics news at Nowata, Homer Johnston has stepped down as athletic director at Nowata. Johnston will stay on at Nowata High School and remain as the golf coach. Current football coach Chance Juby will take over as the athletic director at Nowata High School.
