A Bartlesville man is facing a felony charge after allegedly possessing a firearm after being convicted of a felony.

37-year-old Fernando Ornelas was charged on Monday with possession of a firearm after a previous conviction of a felony.

According to the Bartlesville Police Department, on May 11 at approximately 3:30 a.m., Ornelas was pulled over by police due to the vehicle not having a registration sticker. The officer allegedly smelled marijuana emitting from the vehicle and got a K9 assist to search the car. One officer allegedly noticed a loaded firearm in the rear passenger seat floorboard.

One officer allegedly found through an Interstate Identification Index (III) search that Ornelas has a previous felony conviction.

Ornelas will appear in court again on May 23 at 9 a.m. His bond is set at $10,000.
