Ironmen Defeat Huskies to Keep Season Alive

The Pawhuska Huskies were taking on the Nowata Ironmen in a regional consolation round game and both teams needed it to keep their season alive. In a first half that was largely controlled by Nowata and a third quarter controlled by Pawhuska, it was the Ironmen who pulled away down the stretch to get the 45-36 victory.
The Pawhuska Huskies held an eight-point lead going into the fourth quarter, but two big three-pointers from Nowata's Chelo Prince help trim the lead to two. From there, turnovers plagued the Huskies, as Clint Harrington was able to make his presence felt down low and give Nowata the lead. From there, it became a free throw shooting contest and the Ironmen were able to get the victory, giving themselves a chance at an area tournament berth with a win on Tuesday afternoon.
Nowata surged out to a 16-5 lead, but after Pawhuska settled in, the Huskies were able to draw the Ironmen to within four heading into the second quarter. Pawhuska took its first lead of the game just before halftime on a basket from Jenson Snodgrass. In the second half, Pawhuska's largest lead ballooned to nine before Nowata made the comeback.
Pawhuska finishes the season at 11-15 and Nowata improves to 16-9. The Ironmen take on the winner of Wyandotte and Caney Valley on Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. That game can be heard on 99.1 FM KPGM and audio coverage will be available at KRIGTV.com.
